Republican Walker Stapleton Continues To Set Fundraising
Pace in 2010 State Treasurer’s Race

Strong Support for Pro-Taxpayer Message

DENVER—Republican businessman Walker Stapleton announced today that he has now raised more than $310,000 for his 2010 campaign to unseat Democrat incumbent State Treasurer Cary Kennedy. That figure includes over $65,000 raised in the last quarter of 2009.

Stapleton’s efforts leave him with more than $270,000 cash on hand.

The list of Colorado business leaders supporting Stapleton also continues to grow and now includes, among many others:  Philip Anschutz, Bill Barrett, Pete Coors, Joe Ellis, John Elway, Mike Fries, Meg Duke, Charlie Gallagher, Fred Hamilton, Marc Holtzman, Bob Hawk , Bill Hybl, Jake Jabs, Holly Arnold-Kinney, Edie Marks, Dan Ritchie, Dick Robinson, John Sie, Tim Travis, Jack Vickers, Bill Vollbracht and Jim Wallace.

Stapleton credits his strong and growing support to his clear, pro-taxpayer message, which contrasts starkly with the Democrat incumbent’s tax-and-spend record.  “As I speak to more and more Coloradans about the state’s dire fiscal situation, it’s clearer and clearer to me that the people want a new State Treasurer,” Stapleton said. “They want a Treasurer who has real world experience actually running a business. Coloradans want someone who will be an independent and credible watchdog for the taxpayers.”

“We will give voters a clear choice in 2010,” Stapleton declared.  “The Democrat incumbent favors more back door tax increases and more spending.  I favor taxpayer rights and spending restraint.”

The Stapleton for Colorado finance team is co-chaired by business leaders Greg Maffei, CEO of Liberty Media Group, and J. Landis (Lanny) Martin, founder of Platte River Ventures. The campaign’s treasurer is Joe Smith, a partner in the law firm of Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott LLP.

Smith noted that several donors who previously backed other candidates in the race are now supporting Stapleton.  “We are seeing a growing consensus that Walker Stapleton will be the Republican nominee and the next State Treasurer.”
