Republican Walker Stapleton Adds $148,000 to Campaign War Chest
in First 2010 Reporting Period
DENVER—Republican businessman Walker Stapleton announced today that he added $148,000to his state treasurer campaign coffers in the first four months of 2010. Stapleton is running for the Republican nomination to face the Democrat incumbent in November.
Stapleton has amassed $457,800 for his campaign since announcing last spring, and his current efforts leave him with $340,000 cash on hand.
Stapleton’s most recent fundraising efforts were capped off by an event featuring the Honorable Tom Ridge, our nation’s first Secretary of Homeland Security. Honoring Secretary Ridge and Stapleton by hosting the event were Sharon and Lanny Martin, Larry Mizel, Greg Maffei and Ernie Blake and Sharon Magness Blake.
More than 76% of the Stapleton Campaign’s first quarter donors and money came from within Colorado. “I have spent the first quarter of 2010 traveling the state talking to business leaders and the grassroots, and I continue to hear the same message: The voters want a leader from the private sector who has not spent a lifetime working in politics,” said Stapleton. “That is why our campaign has been gaining so much momentum in the first four months of 2010.”
Of the $148,000 added to his campaign treasury, Stapleton himself invested $94,000. “I have been so humbled by the support my campaign has received from across Colorado, allowing us to raise more money than any other candidate in the race. I felt like it was time for me to join these business and community leaders and grassroots donors that have allowed my campaign to be so successful,” Stapleton said.
The Stapleton for Colorado finance team is co-chaired by business leaders Greg Maffei, CEO of Liberty Media Group, and J. Landis (Lanny) Martin, founder of Platte River Ventures. The campaign’s treasurer is Joe Smith, a partner in the law firm of Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott LLP.
Stapleton for Colorado Treasurer Joe Smith added, “We owe our continued success to Walker's extremely hard work, travelling the state and spending countless hours listening to voters' concerns. Walker remains the only Republican in the race with both the resources and the experience to defeat the Democrat incumbent in November and turn a new page at the state capitol."
