State Treasurer Candidate Walker Stapleton Announces
Successful Petition Drive
DENVER— Walker Stapleton, candidate for Colorado State Treasurer, announced today that he will be concluding his petition drive and submitting over 27,000 signatures to the Secretary of State’s office on the afternoon of May 27, 2010.
“The response has been overwhelming,” Stapleton said. “We have been working hard all spring talking directly to voters and collecting signatures. To have so many Coloradans rally behind our campaign gives us a ton of momentum heading into the summer.”
“Our internal audits show that we will have more than two times the valid signatures required to qualify for the Republican Primary election ballot. Any attempt to challenge our petitions would be nothing more than a political stunt and would undoubtedly come up short,” commented campaign manager, Michael Fortney.
Candidates seeking a statewide office must get the support of a minimum of 10,500 registered Republicans, with at least of 1,500 from each of Colorado’s seven congressional districts in order to be placed on the ballot.
“Our message is resonating with voters across Colorado,” Said Stapleton. “Voters are sick and tired of career politicians and are ready to elect someone from the real world who has spent his entire career in the private sector to begin cleaning up the financial mess at our state capitol,”
Stapleton has run a strong campaign since launching his bid last year. He has set fundraising records, and has a nearly four-to-one cash on hand lead over his primary opponent, demonstrating that he is the best positioned candidate to recapture the Treasurer’s Office for Republicans in November.
Stapleton is a fourth-generation Coloradan and CEO of a publicly traded real estate company with offices in Colorado and California. In addition to his company, Stapleton has several land, retail and residential investments throughout Colorado and serves on the board of Denver Public Library Foundation. His previous work experience includes serving as a chief investment officer and chief financial officer for small businesses. Stapleton has a graduate degree in Business Economics from the London School of Economics and an MBA from Harvard University.
Stapleton, his wife Jenna and their two-year-old son, Craig, live in Greenwood Village.
