Secretary of State Approves State Treasurer Candidate Walker Stapleton for Republican Primary Ballot
DENVER — Walker Stapleton, candidate for Colorado State Treasurer, announced today that the Secretary of State has officially accepted his 26,000 signatures and he will be placed on the August 10th Republican primary ballot.
“We are excited that the process has been successful and that we are now officially on the Republican Primary ballot,” Stapleton said. “This was definitely a group effort. We've gathered signatures from across Colorado from people who are tired of politics as usual; from people who are eager to have someone with real world business experience solve Colorado's real budget problems."
Candidates seeking statewide office must get the support of a minimum of 10,500 registered Republicans, with at least 1,500 from each of Colorado’s seven congressional districts, in order to be placed on the ballot. Stapleton’s campaign turned in almost three times the amount required by the Secretary of State.
“The most important step is getting on the ballot, you can’t win if you are not in the game,” said Stapleton. “We have to keep working hard and talking to voters. The general public is dissatisfied with the direction politicians have been taking our state. Our campaign is about giving these voters a choice between politics as usual and someone with private sector business experience.”
Stapleton has gained significant momentum in recent months. In additional to gathering the approval of 26,000 Coloradans, the campaign has opened a Northern Colorado Office. Stapleton's campaign has also maintained an almost 4-1 cash on hand lead over his primary opponent.
Stapleton is a fourth-generation Coloradan and CEO of a publicly traded real estate company with offices in Colorado and California. In addition to his company, Stapleton has several land, retail and residential investments throughout Colorado and serves on the board of Denver Public Library Foundation. His previous work experience includes serving as a chief investment officer and chief financial officer for small businesses. Stapleton has a graduate degree in Business Economics from the London School of Economics and an MBA from Harvard University.
Walker, his wife Jenna and their two-year-old son, Craig, live in Greenwood Village.
