Stapleton More Than Doubles Incumbent Treasurer’s Fundraising
Record Quarter Shows More Than Twice As Much Raised, Much More Cash on Hand
(DENVER) – Examining the final tally for the first reporting quarter since he announced his run for State Treasurer, Republican businessman Walker Stapleton raised more than double the amount of the current Treasurer – and has dramatically more cash on hand. Given the Treasurer’s anemic fundraising for the quarter, Stapleton has now raised more funds in one quarter than any other candidate for Treasurer ever – incumbent or challenger.
"The fact that Walker Stapleton has raised the most money in a single quarter for a Colorado Treasurer's race shows that Republicans see him as the candidate that can beat Cary Kennedy next fall", said Christine Burtt, a longtime Republican activist.
“Our message is clearly resonating. It’s clear that Coloradans want a State Treasurer who is a watchdog for taxpayers and an aggressive advocate for protecting state pension funds,” Stapleton said. “The incumbent’s longtime record of pushing irresponsible budget practices and higher taxes is simply wrong for these tough economic times. Combine that with the massive troubles facing state pension funds on her watch, and it’s clearly time for new leadership at the State Treasury.”
In the quarter ending June 30, Walker Stapleton raised $138,211, and has more than $126,000 cash on hand. The incumbent Treasurer raised only $65,999 in that same quarter and reports only $72,896 cash on hand.
